Parish of St Joseph, Sentul Organises Youth Crime Prevention and Personal Safety Talk

KUALA LUMPUR — In conjunction with the Feast of St Maximilian Kolbe, the Parish of St Joseph, Sentul, recently hosted an empowering personal safety workshop titled “Crime – Avoid Being a Victim; Be a Survivor.”
Organised for youth ranging from Form Two students to young adults, the interactive session aimed to equip young parishioners with practical knowledge and heightened awareness to protect themselves against physical and digital threats in today’s society.

The session was facilitated by Master Saiful Hamiruzzaman bin Mohd Hazir, a renowned Malaysian personal safety, cyber awareness, and self-defence expert. Drawing from his extensive credentials in martial arts, criminology, and crime prevention, Master Saiful delivered a dynamic presentation covering situational awareness, practical self-defence concepts, and key strategies to navigate cyber risks.
Taking inspiration from St Maximilian Kolbe—the patron saint of amateur radio operators, cyber security, and prisoners, who exemplified selfless courage—the talk urged participants to be vigilant, proactive, and resilient. By shifting the mindset from passive vulnerability to informed survivorship, the youth were encouraged to look out for one another and foster a safer community environment.
The event concluded leaving the young participants better prepared, confident, and aware of their personal security both online and offline.
