On the 21st and 22nd May 2016, Catechists of St Joseph Church, Sentul organised a 2-day retreat for students of year 4, 5 and 6 with the theme “Building Bridges in the Spirit of the Beatitudes,” in conjunction with the Year of Mercy.
In this first part of retreat and formation, only the first five Beatitudes were focused and they are:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven,”
“Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted,”
“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth,”
“Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied,”and
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy”.
The program started with a general introduction on the Beatitudes (MT 5: 3-12). Then each catechism teacher facilitated the first five Beatitudes at different times during the two days. The children were given individual and group activities (such as crafts, drawings, music, games, etc) to help them to understand and reflect each Beatitude better. In between every session, a lively community song entitled, “Trading My Sorrows” was played and acted by the children.
Our children are truly blessed and we are truly grateful for this retreat where the presence of the Holy Spirit guided all of us in our every preparation. It was a very meaningful and spiritual one. On behalf of Catechism Teachers and facilitators, we would like to say thank you to the parents for encouraging their children to participate in it. We are looking forward for the next session Beatitudes (Part 2) which will be held in September 2016.
