Congregation reminded to care for the elderly
The World Day for the Elderly was celebrated by the Archdiocese of Kuala Lumpur at St. Joseph’s Church on Sunday, September 30, 2018. Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur, Julian Leow celebrated the Sunday evening Mass with the parish priest Rev. Fr. George Packiasamy concelebrating. Also present were Cardinal Soter Fernandez and Archbishop Emeritus Murphy Pakiam.
This is the first time that the diocese has set aside a day in conjunction with the World Day for the Elderly, and it is expected to become an annual event on the diocese calendar.
Archbishop Leow reminded the congregation to care for the elderly in their families and not to let them feel like they are cast away. “In today’s world, the aged in our families may not live with us anymore,” he said, “and where once they still took care of two generations in one household, today they seem to be of no use”
Archbishop reminded the elderly that they have much to offer everyone, due to their years of struggle, strife, their experiences and their wisdom.
The celebration ended with a simple fellowship at the parish hall.-
