Christmas is always seen as a joyful and fun celebration all around the world. The ever joyful Christmas celebration is a time to be merry. Hence, in keeping with the season of giving, SJC Sentul’s annual Christmas get together was held on 18th December 2016 on the church grounds and it involved all parishioners.
The Christmas Get Together started off with a beautiful bilingual Mass at 9.30am which included three languages namely English, Tamil and Myanmarese. Mass celebrant Rev. Fr. George Packiasamy, continuously gives full support to the community in making every event including this event a successful one.
The four month preparations focused on its objective of sharing and reaching out to share the good news of Christ’s birth which brings to the world the gift of joy and love. This Christmas event was organised by the church community together with the Parish Integral of Human Development Ministry (PIHDM) of SJC. Their efforts, time and love put in towards achieving this event is commendable as they gave their very best to ensure a beautiful celebration especially to parishioners, families and children involved.
Part of the program on that day included distribution of school uniforms to under privileged children, provisions of groceries for low income families, a luncheon with great food for 3000 people, as well as some game booths for both children and adults, and wonderful entertainment from a live band and other superb singers. To spice up the event, the classic Mr Santa Claus showed up riding on a four wheel truck and that immediately lighted up the entire atmosphere with shouts of joy and loud claps from everyone present. The happiness spotted on each of the children’s faces were priceless. The community here certainly portrayed the word “happiness” and managed to put it into this lovely celebration.
Thankfully, we managed to reach the targeted amount of RM150,000.00 required. Everyone contributed however they could and that included parishioners sponsoring via cash donations for the children. The money was put into getting two sets of school uniforms, two pairs of school shoes and brand new school bag for each of the under privilege children. Moreover, members of the community put in a lot of effort to get sponsors from many other commercial places. In addition to these, tickets were also sold at RM2.00 per ticket, and these were raffle draw tickets, which saw prizes for the 200 lucky winners. Therefore, we are proud to claim that all of our SJC parishioners in unity participated and supported this event whole heartedly, marking a blessed Christmas occasion indeed.
In order to make the event merrier, the parish extended invitations to religious leaders of various religions and also teachers from neighboring schools. The day was filled with fun and laughter and everybody was happy as can be, despite the heat from the scorching sun.
