The Feast Day of St. Joseph the Worker climaxed in a radiant harmony of gratitude and unwavering devotion, as the faithful united in a profound, jubilant homage to their spiritual journey, rekindling the flames of faith with renewed fervor and reverence. From April 26th to May 1st, 2025, the Novena and Feast Day unfolded as a sacred journey, immersing the faithful in profound prayer, deep reflection, and the warmth of communal devotion.
The celebration began with the flag hoisting, a meaningful tradition that marked the start of six days of devotion. Each evening, Mass was led by different priests, offering messages of encouragement and faith. Among them were Fr. Jude Nirmal Doss, Fr. Vincent Thomas, Fr. Frederick Joseph, the parish priest, and Msgr. James Gnanapiragasam, the priest in residence, who guided the congregation through a spiritually uplifting experience.
On the first evening, the faithful took part in a solemn procession of the Blessed Sacrament following the Eucharistic celebration. Walking in prayer, they journeyed around the church before concluding with benediction at Mother Mary’s grotto. This was followed by a fellowship gathering, sponsored by the BECs, which helped strengthen the bonds of community. Throughout the novena days, each day focused on a different aspect of hope, encouraging reflection on overcoming challenges, practicing charity, caring for creation, forgiveness, and building unity.
On May 1st, a special symposium explored the theme *Hope does not disappoint*, based on Romans 5:5. The speakers shared insights on how faith and work are connected. Fr. Gerard Theraviam spoke about the importance of labour as a sacred calling. Ms. Janice Leo, an expert in employment law, gave an overview of workers’ rights and responsibilities. Fr. Jude Nirmal Doss talked about the balance between work and personal life, offering reflections on how faith can help people find harmony.
In the evening, the faithful gathered for Vespers and the Novena to St. Joseph, followed by a Solemn Mass. Fr. Vincent Thomas led the Eucharistic celebration, joined by other priests including Fr. Frederick Joseph, Msgr. James Gnanaprigasam, Fr. Mitchel Anthony, Fr. Lawrence, Fr. Jude Nirmal Doss, and Fr. Bonaventure. After Mass, a procession honoring St. Joseph took place, with the Rosary prayed in multiple languages—English, Tamil, and Myanmar—reflecting the unity and diversity of the congregation. As pilgrims walked through Jalan Sentul, they expressed their devotion and reflected on St. Joseph’s virtues. Upon returning to the church, petitions were burned, symbolising trust in God’s providence. The flag was then lowered, and the congregation sang the Holy Patron hymn with deep gratitude.
The celebration ended with a fellowship meal, bringing together over 1,300 attendees. Under the leadership of Vincent Devethas and the team and the guidance of Fr. Frederick Joseph, the feast was well-organised and meaningful. More than just a gathering, the event was a powerful reminder that hope remains a guiding light for the faithful. Inspired by St. Joseph the Worker, those who attended left feeling strengthened, uplifted, and renewed in their faith. May St. Joseph continue to intercede for all, guiding those who labour toward fulfilment in God’s love.
