St. Joseph Church, Sentul: Embracing Success and Collaboration through Parents-Catechist Open Day Session
Parents Catechist Open Day or better known as Report Card Day, is a significant event in the Catechetical calendar that bridges the gap between educators and parents. It serves as an invaluable opportunity for parents to engage with catechists, gain insights into their child’s progress, and foster a collaborative environment for their faith educational journey.
With the consent and approval of the Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Frederick Joseph, on the 9th of July, 2023, the Report Card Day session was held for the first time in the Parish Community Hall of St. Joseph Church, Sentul, catering to both Tamil and English Session Classes. By attending this event, parents were able to meet their child’s catechist face-to-face, establishing a connection that lays the foundation for effective communication throughout the faith academic year. Such relationships foster trust, making it easier for parents to collaborate with educators in addressing their child’s strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement.
One of the primary purposes of Report Card Day is to provide parents with a comprehensive overview of their child’s overall progress in the church. Report cards offer detailed information about a student’s grades (based on the mid-term examination which was held on 11th June 2023), attendance, and behavior. By analyzing these indicators, parents can identify patterns, strengths, and areas that require attention. This knowledge enables parents to support their child’s faith learning journey more effectively by reinforcing positive aspects and addressing any challenges.
These personalized conversations shed light on a child’s learning style, strengths, weaknesses, and areas where additional support may be required. This information allows parents and catechists to collaboratively develop strategies to enhance the child’s faith learning experience. By working together, educators and parents can create a tailored approach that nurtures the child’s unique abilities.
Parish Priest , Fr Frederick always reminds and encourages the parents to be engaged and invested in their child’s learning process, providing opportunities for them to contribute positively for the growth of the church and community.
Report Card Day, or Parents Catechist Open Day, serves as a powerful catalyst for effective collaboration between parents and educators. By attending this session, parents gain valuable insights into their child’s academic journey, enabling them to offer targeted support and guidance. It is through this collaboration that parents and catechists can create an environment that nurtures every student’s unique abilities, paving the way for their future success.
