On 27th April 2025, the Church of St Joseph Sentul Catechetical Ministry came together in a special celebration of faith and remembrance. Coordinating the morning Mass in conjunction with the St Joseph Novena and Feast Day celebration, the catechism students, along with parishioners, offered prayers for the late Holy Father, Pope Francis. Originally planned as a Children’s celebration, the event was respectfully refocused into a parish-level tribute following the passing of Pope Francis on 21st April.
Following the Mass, the community gathered at the Community Hall for a programme filled with praise and worship, the recitation of the Rosary, and a touching video presentation commemorating Pope Francis’ life. Rev Fr. Frederick Joseph, Parish Priest, Fr. Vincent Thomas, together with Bro Jayson Wang, seminarian currently on pastoral assignment at the parish, graced the occasion. The video reflected Pope Francis’ remarkable journey — from his early days in Buenos Aires to becoming the first pope from the South America region — and his papacy marked by humility, compassion, and a profound commitment to the poor, the environment, and the marginalised.
The event concluded with a simple fellowship where students were treated to nuggets, sandwiches, mee hoon, sausages, French fries, and soya drinks. As we honour the memory of our beloved Pope Francis, we hold on to his inspiring words: “The world tells us to seek success, power, and money; God tells us to seek humility, service, and love.” May his spirit continue to guide and inspire us.
