11.11.18 wasn’t just an ordinary Sunday but it was indeed a special day as 21 children received their First Holy Communion. All the children looked very radiant and beautiful in white that morning. The day started off with a photo session with Father George, the class teachers and all 21 children at St. Joseph’s grotto. Father offered a short prayer and blessed the children at the grotto.
At the start of Mass, the children were accompanied by their parents as they walked in the procession. Each child carried a rose as a sign of offering. This flower was then placed in a basket at the sanctuary. The entire bilingual mass was animated by the parents and concelebrated by Father Moses Rayappan from Batu Pahat, Johor.
During offertory, all 21 children offered up their handmade items which was done at the Holy Communion Camp. Before communion, some of the children looked nervous but managed to put up a smile. But as soon as they had received the Eucharist for the first time, their face glowed with joy .
They were all quite excited about the community song, as they have practiced really hard and kept it a secret from their parents. When it was time to perform, they were all smiles. The children offered the song “Lord I Need You’ so beautifully and danced gracefully , way better than their performances during practices. It was a proud moment for all of us, catechists and parents. At the end of mass, each child was given a small prayer book as a souvenir.
Our heartfelt thanks to Father George , Father Moses , Sister Mary David who conducted the camp, all parents and not forgetting all the catechists who have journeyed throughout the preparation for the Sacrament of First Holy Communion, for coming together and making this day a very memorable and meaningful one for the children.
God bless and see you in 2019.
