On Sunday 21st October, one of our parish Ministries, Educare, which comes under the umbrella of the Parish Integral Human Development Ministry (PIHD) organised a breakfast sale to help the migrant families ease their financial burdens. This idea came about from one of our moral lessons in the class “using our talents and skills to make a living”.
Our breakfast sale was a little different from the usual ones we have at our parish. Mothers of our students at Educare prepared their specialty and managed their own stalls. They managed to sell all their items thanks to our generous parishioners who fully supported this venture. The income from the sale was all theirs. This made them return home with big smiles and feeling thankful for what they have earned for the day.
Creating a platform and showing them a way to earn an income with dignity was indeed very empowering. This little effort by our Educare volunteers also comes in line with World day of Migrants and Refugees which we celebrated on 23rd of Sept 2018 with the theme : WELCOMING, PROTECTING, PROMOTING AND INTEGRATING MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES.
Let’s keep the words of Pope Francis’ homily for 104th celebration of World Day of Migrants and Refugees in our hearts as we continue to serve humanity with love.
“In welcoming the migrant or refugee, we have an opportunity to welcome Jesus.”
I take this opportunity to thank our parish priest Rev. Fr. George Pakiasamy and all our volunteer teachers for their support and love towards this Ministry.
