As July was dedicated by the Church as the Month of the Bible, our parish kicked off the celebration on the 5th of July with the Enthronement of the Bible during the 9:30am Mass, a beautiful reminder of the Word of God taking its rightful place at the centre of our lives and our homes.

The celebration continued into our catechism classes, where teachers were given simple guidelines and ideas to help bring the Bible alive for the children. Each class was encouraged to explore Scripture in their own creative way, choosing verses that spoke to them and reflecting on what these words meant in their own lives.

Our Year 5 children led by teachers Gloria and Jerosa embraced the activity with such heart. They chose verses like Ephesians 4:26 on not letting anger lead to sin, Psalms 34:18 on God’s nearness to the broken-hearted, Hebrews 13:6 on trusting the Lord as our helper, Galatians 6:1 on gently guiding one another back to what is right, and Psalms 25:1-2, a prayer of surrender and trust.

Alongside each verse, the children illustrated their own crosses, flowers and symbols of faith, and wrote in their own words why the verse mattered to them, from learning to correct a friend with gentleness, to trusting God even in moments of fear or defeat.

It was heartwarming to see how these young minds engaged with Scripture, not just as words to memorise, but as truths to live by. Their drawings and reflections were simple, yet full of sincerity, a beautiful sign that the seeds of God’s Word are truly taking root in our children.

As we continue through this Month of the Bible, may we, like our children, keep returning to Scripture not just to read it, but to let it shape how we love, forgive and walk with one another
