During these past two weeks a few events took place in our parish. On 25th October 2015, we had a free “Healthy Living Lifestyle” programme, jointly organised by the Sentul Health Clinic and the Parish Integral Human Development (PIHD). About 120 parishioners benefited with free medical screening while about 100 catechism students and adults participated in the “Healthy Living Life Style” briefing.
On 31st October, we had our Parish Pastoral Assembly (PPA) for the year 2015. Approximately 120 members from various BECs and ministries attended the PPA which progressed smoothly. During the group sharing, many participants voiced their concerns about whether our young people would take on the responsibility to shape and renew their future and the Church. It was noticed that none of the youths attended the PPA. Will they abandon the Church? Where are they?
From the time I stepped into this parish of St. Joseph until now, I admit that I have failed to revive the youths and their involvement in the youth ministry. Many of my plans for the youths have not materialized. Our young people today are progressing well in their studies and career but remain stagnant in the area of spiritual growth. How can we as a parish community get our youths actively involved in the life of the parish?
One of the questions raised at the PPA was: “Am I here as a contractor or parish priest?” As far as I know I do take my commitment to this parish seriously and carry out my duties accordingly. If I don’t fulfill my duties as a priest please correct me. I’m ready to accept constructive criticism.
On the other hand, I do take extra care and initiative to upkeep and refurbish our Church and Community building. If you are there to give a helping hand and volunteer to render your services, in this area, I will be more than happy to take a step back. Please remember that while our spiritual growth is important, it is equally important to ensure a beautiful and peaceful environment for worship, and this is why I also place importance in beautifying the God’s House and its surroundings.
Jesus was criticised and misunderstood; however He continued His mission and ministry with great zeal. Similarly, in the face of criticism, I’m committed to carry out my priestly duties unconditionally. I’m happy in this parish and believe there are many of you who trust in my work and who continue to support and pray for me.
A note of thanks and appreciation to all leaders from the various ministries and all parishioners for your prayers and support in STRENGTHENING OUR FAITH COMMUNITY and fulfilling our parish mission. In all our questionings, doubts, achievements and disappointments, we will continue to raise each other’s spirits up and offer a hymn of thanksgiving to God for his unfailing mercies upon us.
Deo Gratias.
