Celebrating the Jubilee of Service

On 27th and 28th September, the Church of St. Joseph Sentul and the Church of the Risen Christ, Jalan Ipoh came together in thanksgiving to celebrate the Jubilee of the Catechists. More than 50 catechists, together with members of the RCIA and Bible Knowledge groups, participated in this two-day celebration of faith, fellowship, and renewal of mission.

Day One began with a pilgrimage to Church of Jesus Caritas Kepong in the morning, setting the tone of prayer and reflection. This was followed by a meaningful formation session facilitated by Rev. Fr. Frederick and Bro. Jayson, who shared on the theme of “Being, Knowing, and Doing” as well as practical insights into teaching methodology. The highlight of the day was the Commissioning of the Catechists during the sunset Mass, where catechists renewed their commitment to serve God through the ministry of teaching. The evening continued with a joyful BBQ dinner, filled with team-building and group activities that strengthened the bonds of friendship and collaboration among the catechists.

Day Two began with Mass coordinated by the Catechetical Ministry at the Church of St. Joseph, after which the celebration continued at the community hall with a Jubilee programme dedicated to honouring catechists and teachers. Students presented song and dance performances, while others expressed their gratitude and love for their teachers through words and tributes. These heartfelt gestures highlighted the deep impact catechists have in guiding the faith journey of the young.

The Jubilee of the Catechists was not only a time to celebrate their service but also a moment to renew their call to be witnesses of Christ in the world. As St. Paul reminds us, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly; teach and admonish one another in all wisdom; and with gratitude in your hearts sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to God” (Colossians 3:16).
