Father Soosay was not only my parish priest but he is also a very dear friend to me and here I would use the initial letters of his name ‘Edward’ to describe him.
The letter (E) represents elegance– Father Soosay is a very elegant man not only in the way he dresses and holds himself but also in the way he speaks as he seldom raises his voice even when he is most annoyed. He even looks elegant in his sarong.
The letter (D) represents devoted and dedicated. Father Soosay is a very devoted and dedicated priest as he is easily available at his office, even on a Monday. He also shows the same devotion and dedication to his plants as he can be seen drenched in sweat every morning as he lovingly toil in the church gardens.
The letter (W) represents wisdom. I see his wisdom especially when he handles arguments. All he does is just bring his hands together, shakes his head and if the person is sensible enough he will get the message immediately.
The letter (A) represents affection. Father Soosay is an affectionate person which has gained him many friends and he once told me that he has some Chinese lady friends who would even peel prawns and remove the bones from the fish when he goes out for dinner with them.
The letter (R) represents respect. Father Soosay portrays the image of a man from God as his very presence has earned respect not only from the people he knows but also from those who doesn’t know him.
Last but not least, the letter (D) represents the word ‘dear’. It is because of this dear person that all of us have come from far and near to honour him for his great achievements and the wonderful life he has lived.
You are always in our thoughts and prayers Father Edward.
