Divine Harmony Resounds at Catechetical Concert and Recognition Ceremony 2023
On the day adorned with spiritual splendour, St. Joseph’s Church hosted the Catechetical Concert and Prize-Giving Ceremony 2023 on the 19th of November. The event witnessed an impressive turnout, with more than 500 parents, catechists, children, and parishioners converging to celebrate the culmination of a spiritually enriching year.
A poignant highlight of the event was the unveiling of the Catechetical Ministry Milestone video, a cinematic journey through the significant events that shaped 2023. From the thought-provoking Bible Dress-up competition to the visually captivating Art competition and the articulate Public Speaking competition, the video encapsulated a year of spiritual growth. The crowd was taken on a reflective voyage through film-viewing, the joyous Family Day celebration, and the solemnity of Confirmation and the First Holy Communion camp.
Another crowning moment was the presentation of the Tan Sri Dominic Vendargon Award for 2023. This prestigious accolade was bestowed upon Angeline Marie Tuan, in recognition of her outstanding results in the SPM examination, with Bible knowledge. Angeline’s dedication to academic excellence and spiritual wisdom is a shining example for the entire community.
The stage, transformed into a platform for divine expression, showcased talents from Angels, Nursery, Standards 2, 5, 6, Forms 3, and 4 English classes, as well as Standards 2, 4, 5, and 6 Tamil Classes. Special recognition goes to the remarkable children who graced the stage with an emotionally charged action song, a dazzling fashion show, and dynamic dance and song performances, revealing the hidden talents within our vibrant community.
Amid the jubilant atmosphere, the ceremony paid homage to the exceptional achievements of students. The Faithful Presence awards acknowledged steadfast commitment to the highest attendance, the Active Learner Accolade celebrated enthusiastic participation, and the prestigious St. Joseph’s Star Awards were conferred upon those who attained the zenith in their examinations.
Beyond individual accomplishments, the ceremony took a reverential pause to honour the dedicated catechists, whose enduring service spans a decade or more. Their commitment stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the ministry. This award goes to:
Teacher Simson Gloria Mary (27 years)
Teacher Nelson Dass (18 years)
Teacher Puspa Rakini (15 years)
Teacher Gevanamani Sebastian (14 years)
Teacher Muriel Mordon (13 years)
Teacher Assunta Rani Savarimuthu (12 years)
Teacher John Bosco Morais (10 years)
The distinguished presence of Rev. Fr. Frederick Joseph, St. Joseph’s Church Parish Priest, Mr. Gabriel Moses, Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) Chairman, Dr. Sheela Theivanthiran, PPC committee member, and Mr. Richard Ganesh, Parish Formation Coordinator, added a layer of spiritual depth to the ceremony.
Reflecting on the resonant theme, “Salt of the Earth and Light of the World,” the event reminded attendees of their divine calling to be the salt that preserves Christ’s teachings and the light that guides others toward His love.
The organizing committee and the tireless Catechetical Response Team were instrumental in bringing this divine celebration to fruition, and their efforts deserve heartfelt appreciation.
In conclusion, let us draw inspiration from the Gospel of Matthew 5:13-16: “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world… Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
May the echoes of this celestial celebration resonate, guiding the community towards the eternal light of our Father.
Congratulations to all the winners, the Catechetical Ministry and the parents!
