Lent is a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord’s Resurrection at Easter. Thus, the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) ministry of the Church of St. Joseph, Sentul organised a Lenten recollection on 25th February 2023 with the theme of “Renew, Reflect & Prepare” for the current RCIA Catechumens batch 2022/2023.
A total of thirty participants (Catechumens including Confirmands and Sponsors) attended, and the response was overwhelming.
Monsignor James gave a beautiful talk about Lent. The RCIA facilitators shared and conducted some activities focusing on God’s forgiveness, the Wounds of Christ and Temptation/challenges faced by RCIA Catechumens in this journey of conversion to become Catholic.
Everyone was touched during the sessions and felt the love of God embracing and strengthening each one of them in preparing their hearts to follow Christ.
After the recollection, the catechumens and all who participated in the recollection joined the sunset mass for the Rite of Enrolment. This was celebrated by Rev. Fr. Frederick Joseph.
A total of eight Catechumens and their sponsors were called forth during the mass, for the affirmation and enrolment of their names in the Book of the Elect. These mark the entry into the final phase of their preparation and readiness to enter fully into the life of the Church through the Sacrament of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation & the Eucharist this Easter Vigil.
The next day, 26th February 2023, The Rite of Election for KL Archdiocese RCIA Catechumens was held at the Church of Holy Family and presided by His Grace Archbishop Julian Leow.
Now, officially the Catechumens are called the ELECT since they have been elected by God to become members of the Church.
Let us keep our RCIA Elects in our prayers and come together to share the Joy of Easter as they will be celebrating their sacraments during the Easter Vigil on the 8th April 2023.
