On Sunday, 08 December 2019, St. Joseph’s church, Sentul celebrated International Day for the Differently Abled (IDD) with the theme “Rejoice and Be Glad” with a special Mass concelebrated by His Grace Archbishop Julian Leow with His Grace Archbishop Emeritus Murphy Pakiam and parish priest Rev. Fr. George Packiasamy. The mass animation was organized by Eagle’s Wing led by Reena Josefa who collaborated with other churches’ ministries e.g. Wheels, Faith and Light Community from Assumption Church, Petaling Jaya, Assisi Beloved Community from St. Francis of Assisi Church, Cheras and some individuals from Fatima Church, Brickfields.
The lectors – Diana Marie Vendawall from Wheels and Haivan John from Eagle’s Wing proclaimed with great courage and determination. They brought enlightenment to many abled people who lack confidence to multiply their talents for the church. For some who received Holy Communion from Lily Anthony from Wheels felt humbled.
All the differently abled brothers and sisters who participated in the singing did truly sing from their hearts and thus brought conversion to all present.
The objective of this celebration was also to increase an awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and celebrate their achievements and contributions.
After a spirit filled mass, the congregation was invited for a fellowship organized by Eagle’s Wing. To make this event a joyful one, St. Joseph’s choir led by Bro. Gregory Williams sang Christmas Carol songs. An atmosphere filled with lots of joy and fraternal relationship. They also had a surprise birthday celebration for His Grace Archbishop Emeritus Murphy Pakiam. The less fortunate was not forgotten as the Educare children were invited to this meaningful event.
I must say that this event was successful and smooth flowing because many noble people came forward to support Eagle’s Wing and made it happen. As for Reena, I think she is a great leader who works tirelessly to bring all the differently abled under one roof. May this ministry flourish and may they extend their territories to invite many more to celebrate this auspicious day with gratitude in their hearts and may God’s mercy and grace be upon them always.
