The SJC Prayer Group recently organised an Advent activity that was uniquely named ‘Divine Designs’. We made little Biblical ornaments that we will hang on the Jesse Tree for our Christmas Community Gathering in December.
The session was animated by Sheela Theveintharan, who explained to the group, that this activity will involve each team member reading a short extract from the Bible that will give us a deeper understanding of salvation history in relation to the birth of Jesus.
As a community of worshippers, we are now in the process of exploring our gifts and talents through creativity. We believe that besides coming together for prayer, we can use our natural inborn talents to express ourselves in different forms of expression, thereby, giving glory to God.
Let’s take a moment to reflect why as children of God, we are encouraged to embrace different forms of expression and in the process, glorify our Maker:
- God reveals His glory to us through His creativity – Creativity is intimately woven into God’s character and makes Him evident to us.
- We reveal His glory when we are creative. – Creativity also helps us understand how we are created in His image. It is a part of His nature and He has given us creative powers. We, His creatures, love to create. Ted Esler
As a prayer group we are seeking new and effective tools to build our community and deepen our faith life. So far, we have performed plays, sign language dances, sharing of testimonies, Bible sharing etc. in front of a range of audiences including the aged in old folks homes where we even got them to dance along with us. In the words of Pope Francis, this kind of evangelisation truly is ‘taking the smell of the sheep’ (Evangelii Gaudium.) We hope to engage in more such evangelistic outreaches in the year 2020.
If you are interested to join us for our gatherings, feel free to drop by. We meet every Friday, except first Fridays, for a time well spent in worship, sharing of the Word, group sharing/activity and testimonies. Periodically, we also go for outreaches and charitable works of mercy.
A Prayer for Creativity
“Heavenly Father, thank you for revealing Your creative nature to me. You are filled with infinite imagination and endless innovation. Your hands form works that are too much for me to comprehend. I glorify You that, though I would have eternal opportunities to explore Your creativity, I would never be able to exhaust the ways in which You have created. I am thrilled that there are unknown worlds that testify to Your beauty and wonder. Thank you for giving me the ability to create. I revel in the fact that I can experience what it means to form something new that might reflect the smallest portion of Your splendour. Help me, Lord, to create in a way that honours You and brings glory to You.”
