On the 16th of September, St. Joseph’s Church Sentul witnessed a day of joy, unity, and diversity as it celebrated its annual Family Day. This significant event, marked by a rich tapestry of activities, reinforced the values of togetherness and inclusivity that define the parish community.
The day commenced with a solemn Mass presided over by Msgr. James, joined by Rev. Fr. Frederick as the concelebrant. It was a spiritual cornerstone upon which the rest of the festivities were built, reminding everyone of the importance of faith and community.
Following the Mass, a vibrant parade took over the church grounds. Accompanied by the rhythmic beats of dholi players, the Family Day committee, and the catechism students, categorized into their respective catechetical houses—Maccabees, Genesis, and Exodus—marched in unity, embodying the essence of the occasion.
Inside the church, excitement reached its peak as parishioners explored a wonderland of exciting games, tantalizing food, and refreshing drinks. The church was brimming with laughter and shared moments as families came together to celebrate their shared faith.
The event also featured a mesmerizing concert performance by the catechism students, who showcased their remarkable talents and left the audience spellbound. The programme that lasted for a few hours kept the audience and visitors glued to their seats as each one was just as tantalising to watch as the one before. Even the Migrant communities and the youth showcased their talents to the rest of the community.
As the sun began to set, invited guests graced the stage with their performances, further enriching the celebration. The youthful energy of the church came to the forefront as the youth band took over, electrifying the atmosphere with their music and enthusiasm.
In a beautiful display of cultural diversity, our migrant communities from Myanmar, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka actively participated by offering a glimpse into their traditions through an array of delectable cuisines. Food was overflowing and there was no lack of variety and delectable dishes. To conclude the end, everyone had a feast with juicy satay which was undoubtedly palatable and brought the food presentations to a satisfying closure. As a treat, the balance food was given away free of charge to those who stayed back – a rare treat for an event like this.
Throughout the day, families were delighted to win numerous prizes, adding an extra layer of excitement to the celebration. The culinary delights from various cultures were enjoyed by many, showcasing the rich tapestry of diversity within the parish.
The grand finale of the day was a magical bubble party. Parishioners of all ages came together in the courtyard, dancing with unbridled joy as bubbles filled the air, creating a whimsical and enchanting scene that perfectly encapsulated the spirit of the event. Brimming with joy, the faces of the kids beamed as they danced and played with these colour-filled bubbles – indeed a heart- warming sight.
As the beats increased in pace and rhythm, the youth gathered in groups and danced with sheer freedom that no one who observed them was left unsmiling. Their contagious enthusiasm so spread to the adults who also joined in the revelry and embraced these moments – surely no money can buy the atmosphere and joy that reverberated through the Church ground that night
As the clock ticked towards the end of the day, a deep sense of fulfilment and togetherness enveloped St. Joseph’s Church Sentul. It had indeed been a long but incredibly amazing day where the church gathered as one, celebrating the unity within their diversity. This Family Day was a testament to the parish’s enduring spirit, where faith, love, and a shared sense of community continue to thrive.
