The Mother Church celebrates the feast of Sts. Joachim and Anne every year on 26 of July to remind us that we should be grateful to our parents and are greatly indebted to them for their selfless love and sacrifices. This year we, the Zomi Catholic Community Malaysia (ZCCM), too had celebrated the Parents’ day in honour of our own parents. This is the time for us to show our gratitude and give them the honour and praise that they rightly deserve.

Due to the pandemic we have not been able to gather as a community for about two years to celebrate the mass and observe the important feast days of the Church. But now we are grateful to God for this freedom of worship that we are enjoying in the past and present in spite of the gap of two years. God has blessed us and praise be His name.

Though the actual feast day falls on the 26 of July we celebrated on the 24th, which is Sunday, with the agreement of the leaders and elders of ZCCM hoping that we would be larger in numbers in the celebration.

As it  was Sunday we had time for confession and recitation of Rosary before the Holy Mass. The Holy Mass began at 1:00pm which was followed by Benediction. Later we had a grand banquet with all the parents present. This was our celebration of Parents’ day which was unique and grand in the sight of God.

After the ceremony we organised a special function in honour of the parents in which our Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Frederick Joseph and Msgr. James Gnanapiragasam (Priest in Residence) were present. Our own priest Rev. Fr. Robert Khai said the opening prayer for the occasion. Then as discussed earlier the oldest persons in the community Mr. Paul and Mary, including Rev. Fr. Robert Khai and our Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Frederick Joseph were called up to the stage where we presented them with gifts as a sign of our respect and love.

Towards the end of the function Msgr. James Gnanapiragasam and Rev. Fr. Frederick Joseph gave a speech of encouragement which was an inspiration to us the listeners.

Then special items followed in which each BEC presented songs to honour the parents. Singers and talented persons from the youth presented their own special numbers too. The celebration given to honour the parents was awesome and memorable!

Gifts were showered to all parents who could come and who could not make it due to various reasons. The concluding prayer was said by our priest Rev. Fr. Robert Khai and we dispersed with his blessings.

We are grateful to our Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Frederick Joseph for allowing us to use the Parish hall. We are grateful to the leaders and elders of ZCCM for their dedication and handwork they put in to make this celebration a success. And most of all we are thankful to God for everything.

And may God continue to bless our parents with good health and long life. May we be a blessing for our parents too in all that we do throughout our life.
