During the recent lockdown under the Movement Control Order (MCO), there was a group of refugees within our BEC 8 (St. Bernard) who was running low on provisions. Since they were mostly comprised of odd job workers, there was little work available during the lockdown. This matter was brought to the attention of the BEC by one of our members.
A total of 48 refugee families was identified to receive aid. A list of basic necessities / provisions, including cost to purchase these, was created.
We then appealed to our BEC members for donations to this worthy cause. The response was overwhelming and we were able to add additional items to the list of basic necessities.
After all the items were purchased, a few BEC members gathered to sort and pack the items for distribution to the refugees, which was carried out on 17 May 2020. Three cars were used to deliver the provisions to the refugees, who, were very appreciative of our contribution.
We would like to say a big “Thank You” to our BEC 8 members for being the “THE UNSUNG HEROS IN THE SERVICE OF THE LESS FORTUNATE”.
